In an effort to raise awareness on combating human trafficking Sahodaya Bethany Seva Kendra, Bendur, Mangalore organized the program on the occasion of World day against Trafficking in persons which is annual event on 30 July 2023. The Program was conducted in support of the Arise Foundation.

The program commenced with a prayer song. The dignitaries were presented the traditional welcome by offering beetle leaves with areca nut and jasmine flowers. The president and other dignitaries inaugurated the program by lighting of the diya inviting the presence of God the Light of the world to illumine the darkened mind with brightness to save the women and children from the heinous crime.

Keeping in mind the theme of this year “Reach every victim of human trafficking, leaving no one behind,” human trafficking and modern day slavery is massive worldwide problem. The resource person Rev Fr Anil Dmello SJ the Superior and Director of Fatima Retreat House, Jeppu, Mangalore, highlighted the present trend of this heinous crime. Through sharing of few examples of his work experience at Mundgod taluka in Karnataka State, the missing cases of children and women, he called on the women to be cautious as the number of missing cases increase day by day. Two video clippings which he showed helped the women understand better the exploitation of women children and men as well. Finally he made them aware that all need to work hard to combat human trafficking which is the modern day slavery and encouraged to share this information to others in the neighborhoods. There was active participation and interaction by the participants.

The program was presided by Sr Sandya BS the General Councilor/ Bethany Educational Society Secretary/ Bethany Social Service Trust member, Sr Shaila the Delegation Superior of Central Delegation, Sr Dona Sanctis BS the Superior of Bethany Convent Bendur, the resource person Rev Fr Anil Dmello SJ, Sr Leena DCosta BS the Coordinator of Sahodaya Bethany Seva Kendra and Mrs Prema the Sahodaya Mahila Okkutta president and SHG’s , federation members, MSW students and Sahodaya staff Mrs Nalini ,Mrs Renila & Mrs Ranjini all together 118 were present for the program.

The Sr Leena DCosta welcomed the gather and introduced the resource person .Mrs Shobha the federation member compered the program and Mrs Sunita Treasure of federation delivered the vote of thanks. All were served meals.
